Environmental Services Technician (EVS) - Housekeeping Aid Supervisor

Summary The Environmental Services Tech - Housekeeping Aid Spvr is in Environmental Management Service at Alexandria VA Health Care System and is responsible for the functioning of the housekeeping and sanitation services throughout the medical center to ensure that daily housekeeping and sanitation needs are met, and that the quality of the work is to the departmental standards. This position is pending classification consistency review; final title, series, grade may change based on OPM standards. Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: Assigns and directs staff to various projects throughout the facility. Plans work activities, establishes deadlines, and accounts for quality and work accomplished. Supervises the collection of dirty linen and delivery of clean linen. Maintains accountability and security of patient effects, patient clothing, indigent supplies, linens and uniforms. Trains subordinate staff in work using oral instructions, on the job and classroom training. Maintains files and compile reports. Ensures proper sanitation procedures are adhered to. Maintains internal controls to ensure the day to day operations are performed. Stores and distributes inventories, equipment and supplies and monitors use, protection, storage and accountability. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The position demands continuous walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, climbing, pulling, and pushing. The work requires lifting and carrying heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 45 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris. Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. Environmental factors also include constant noise, solvents (degreasing agents), grease and oils, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working around machinery with moving parts, working on ladders or scaffolding, unusual fatigue factors, working with hands in water.
