Job title: Network Engineer

General Description:

Responsible for all aspects (software and hardware) of organization and clients' network infrastructure. Recommends, implements, and maintains network and system architectures. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Planning, design, implementation and maintenance of various network and security architectures and implementations.

Essential Functions:

• Monitor the performance and characteristics of firewalls, gateways, networks, remote access and authentication services to make necessary adjustments so as to improve efficiency and effectiveness
• Responsible for identifying, addressing and resolving (in a timely manner) chronic client problems
• Upgrade network hardware and software components as required
• Administer and monitor programs that control user access to the network and systems
• Establish access security for networks and systems being installed
• Setup and maintain network and security infrastructure.
• Participates in the design, implementation and maintenance of networks and systems that are scalable and maintainable
• Promotes and applies principles of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) for continuous process improvement, reducing waste and variability, and enhancing overall customer satisfaction
• Demonstrates and utilizes creative and effective problem solving skills
• Troubleshoot problems as they arise
• Provides general guidance to less experienced staff to assist in their growth and development
• Collaborates with other team members as needed
• Assists with questions and problems courteously and promptly
• Obtains and conveys information as needed
• Keeps management appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems
• Maintains and projects the company's professional reputation
• Works closely with the Senior Systems Engineer and Senior Storage Engineer to provide assistance as needed in designing, planning and maintaining all related systems
• Performs other duties comparable to the above and as otherwise may be assigned

Work and Skill Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years network and security experience
• Experience in network and security design fundamentals, system support, troubleshooting, network and security design and architecture
• Possess in-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN, IP Networks, TCP/IP, and VPN
• Proficiency with PC hardware, standard software and specialized applications
• Working knowledge of UNIX, LINUX and Windows
• Working knowledge of SAN storage
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to explain technical situations, present information and provide training
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and priorities in dynamic environment
• Strong team player
• Ability to manage resources and time effectively
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained

Education Requirements:

• Degree in computer related field or equivalent business/work experience
• Specific certifications may be required based on project/client requirements

Other Requirements:

• Obtain security clearance/pass background check as needed
• Ability to work varied hours to meet client and project needs

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

• Normal office environment
• Prolonged computer work daily
• Some lifting may be required to move equipment
