Job Description

The Set-Up Technician supports injection molding operations by performing tooling set-ups, machine preparation, and barrel cleaning, while ensuring consistent product quality and process efficiency. This role works on the day shift, Tuesday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and involves hands-on mechanical work, basic troubleshooting, and the use of computer software to adjust automated robots and machine parameters.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tooling set-ups for injection molding, including installing injection molds, preparing machines, and performing barrel cleaning to ensure equipment is ready for production.
  • Perform equipment set-ups as directed and verify that machines are producing good parts that meet quality standards.
  • Adjust machine parameters to correct defects observed during production and maintain stable, efficient processes.
  • Distribute material for molding operations to support continuous production flow.
  • Aid in troubleshooting and resolving production problems, including issues related to molds, machines, and process performance.
  • Monitor product quality and process productivity, and take action to address deviations or inefficiencies.
  • Work closely with process engineering to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, optimize cycle times, and support engineering tests.
  • Collect and enter data into computer systems as needed to support documented procedures and process control.
  • Program and optimize robots used in the molding process, including making software adjustments as required.
  • Perform barrel cleaning and grinder cleaning to maintain equipment cleanliness and reliability.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for machine set-up, adjustment, and maintenance tasks.
  • Follow all safety practices, recognize occupational hazards, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors, and follow verbal and written work and safety-related instructions in English.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet production goals and support a safe, efficient manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including experience working on machines, cars, equipment, engines, or production machinery using hand tools such as socket wrenches, Allen wrenches, and other basic hand tools.
  • Experience with hand and power tools and the ability to use them safely and effectively in a production environment.
  • Basic machine troubleshooting and maintenance skills, including adjusting molds, cleaning tooling, and making math-based adjustments within computer systems.
  • Troubleshooting experience on mechanical equipment, such as automotive systems, production machines, engines, or similar equipment.
  • Ability to set up and operate machines, including injection molding equipment, and perform machine set-up tasks.
  • Basic to moderate computer and PC skills, including familiarity with MS Office and the ability to navigate software to adjust automated robots and machine parameters.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a production environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to complete assignments and support production goals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions, with skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English.
  • Ability to work varying work schedules during training as needed to learn processes and equipment.
  • Physical ability to regularly stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, talk, hear, see, and frequently stand and walk while performing job duties.
  • Eligibility to meet ITAR compliance requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred, particularly in environments involving production machinery or automated equipment.
  • Experience with production, machine operation, and machine set-up in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with robot programming and optimization in an automated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a highly safety-focused environment with established procedures and standards.
  • Comfort working in a crowded production floor with multiple molding machines and equipment.

Work Environment

This role is based in an injection metal molding manufacturing facility where the production floor is filled with molding machines, creating a fairly crowded and dynamic environment. There is a strong focus on safety, with established procedures and expectations for following safety practices and recognizing hazards. The position follows a day shift schedule, Tuesday through Saturday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work involves frequent standing and walking, as well as periods of sitting and performing tasks that require manual dexterity. Employees use hand and power tools, interact with automated robots and computer systems, and perform tasks such as machine set-up, barrel cleaning, and grinder cleaning. The environment emphasizes safe equipment operation, clear communication, and adherence to documented procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
