Mechanical Technician

About This Role Textron Systems, leading developers of high‑performance Unmanned Systems, is offering a full‑time opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to support our growing family of unmanned naval products. Our teams are engaged in multiple cutting‑edge development programs for domestic and international programs. This position provides an opportunity to travel, execute experimental military hardware testing, and develop new skills. The strong candidate will have hands‑on experience in the test, integration, and maintenance of mechanical systems and will be ready to work in a fast‑paced environment. The position also includes supporting on‑water operations of surface systems, serving as a small craft operator, safety lookout, or support crew member. Competencies Read assembly documentation (e.g. Work Instructions, Drawings, etc.), parts lists, and diagrams to assemble and install a wide variety of components. Assemble and troubleshoot drivetrain components and hydraulic actuation systems. Use basic hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers in the confines of a small naval craft. Use precision tools such as calipers, combination squares, and various torque wrenches. Use power tools such as drills, saws, sanders, and grinders. Identify and document work order instructions, test procedures, and drawing errors. Assist engineering in issue resolution as part of a design, build, or test team. Responsibilities Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot ocean‑going Unmanned Surface Systems and support craft. Assist Engineers and Designers with prototype development and testing. Support offsite qualification testing in accordance with written procedures. Develop operational and technical manuals. Interface with existing and prospective customers and service members at operational and maintenance demonstrations. Actively perform lab maintenance, safety audits, and material tracking. Promote a safety‑first mindset for all on‑site lab and off‑site testing and personnel. Qualifications Professional written and oral communication skills. Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance. Demonstrated ability to interpret drawings and schematics. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (on water, away from land). Ability to work in tight quarters and confined spaces. Ability to swim. Ability to work extended hours to meet program goals. Willing to travel up to 50% (183 days a year). Knowledge and use of common hand tools. Experience in Diesel Engines strongly preferred. Experience assembling maritime systems strongly preferred. Boating or shipboard experience strongly preferred. Experience as a small boat handler is a plus. Knowledge of test instrumentation and laboratory practices is a plus. Working knowledge of Military specifications is a plus. Working knowledge of Military hardware is a plus.
