POOL - Guidance Counselor

TITLE: 2020 2021 Guidance Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A valid certificate as a guidance counselor
• Successful teaching experience preferred
• A master's degree from an accredited college or university
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL:


To provide a comprehensive counseling program for all children in elementary schools; consult with teachers, parents and staff to enhance the effectiveness in helping students; provide support to other elementary educational programs.

MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implements the comprehensive elementary guidance program.
• Counsels individuals and groups of students toward the development of academic/ educational growth and career plans.
• Counsels individuals and small groups of children toward personal/social and emotional growth.
• Consults with and trains teachers, parents and staff regarding children's needs.
• Refers children and their families to special programs, specialists and community agencies when appropriate.
• Participates in, coordinates and conducts activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school.
• Participates in the intervention team process or school support team.
• Plans and evaluates the counseling program.
• Pursues continuous professional growth.
• Participates in staff development programs.
• Performs other duties as directed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
