General Manager

Bungalow is seeking a dynamic and hospitality-driven General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our restaurant. This individual will be responsible for delivering warm, polished service, an energetic atmosphere, and operational excellence, while supporting Bungalow's culture, culinary vision, and beverage program.

The ideal candidate is a charismatic, well-rounded hospitality professional with experience in high-volume, high-quality restaurants, a genuine passion for guest experience, and a proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire a strong team.

The General Manager will work closely with the Chef and senior leadership to ensure Bungalow consistently delivers an exceptional guest experience while meeting operational and financial goals.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead and inspire the front-of-house team, fostering a culture of hospitality, accountability, professionalism, and fun.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop managers and service staff.
• Set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback and mentorship.
• Build strong relationships across all departments to promote teamwork and open communication.
• Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and positive work environment.
• Oversee scheduling and staffing to meet service needs and budget targets.

Guest Experience & Service

• Uphold high standards of genuine, personalized hospitality at every touchpoint.
• Build relationships with regulars, VIPs, neighborhood guests, and special-occasion parties.
• Engage with guests on the floor and resolve feedback or concerns quickly and gracefully.
• Work closely with the host and reservations team to manage pacing, waitlists, and the guest journey from arrival to departure.
• Ensure Bungalow's service philosophy and atmosphere are reflected consistently every night.

Restaurant Operations

• Oversee daily operations and ensure smooth, well-paced service.
• Maintain excellent standards for dining room, bar, and outdoor space presentation, cleanliness, and ambiance, including music, lighting, and energy.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations, and labor laws.
• Partner with the kitchen to keep communication between front and back of house clear and effective.
• Manage service flow, table turns, reservations, and peak-hour demands.
• Identify operational challenges and implement practical solutions.
• Maintain a visible, active presence on the floor during service.

Beverage & Bar Program

• Work with the bar team to maintain a high-quality, creative cocktail, wine, and spirits program.
• Oversee beverage ordering, inventory, pricing, and cost control.
• Ensure responsible alcohol service and compliance with all licensing requirements.

Financial & Business Management

• Partner with senior leadership to achieve revenue, profitability, and cost-control goals.
• Monitor labor, food, beverage, and operating costs while maintaining service quality.
• Review P&Ls and other financial reports and act on opportunities to improve performance.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, purchasing, inventory control, and expense management.
• Analyze sales trends and implement strategies to drive traffic, check averages, and repeat business.
• Ensure responsible cash handling and adherence to financial controls.

Training & Standards

• Develop and maintain service standards and training programs.
• Ensure the team thoroughly understands the menu, beverages, service steps, and Bungalow's philosophy.
• Lead pre-shift meetings and ongoing training sessions.
• Continuously evaluate and improve service standards.

Collaboration & Community

• Partner with the Chef and culinary team to create a cohesive guest experience.
• Communicate regularly with ownership and senior leadership on performance, staffing, guest feedback, and opportunities.
• Collaborate with the beverage, events, marketing, and administrative teams as needed.
• Support private events, special programming, and local partnerships.
• Represent Bungalow positively in the local community and hospitality industry.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of progressive management experience in upscale casual, high-volume, or fine dining restaurants.
• Previous experience as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, or comparable leadership role preferred.
• Strong understanding of hospitality, service standards, and guest-focused operations.
• Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain a large team.
• Solid financial acumen, including experience managing labor, food, and beverage costs.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Warm, energetic, and polished presence with a genuine passion for people.
• Ability to stay calm, composed, and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment.
• Working knowledge of food, cocktails, wine, and spirits.
• Experience with reservation and POS platforms (e.g., [Resy, Toast]) preferred.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Ability to stand and remain actively engaged on the restaurant floor for extended periods during service.
• Ability to walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the dining room, bar, outdoor areas, and back of house.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
