Job Title: Certified Surgical First Assist Profession: Surgical First Assist Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: 2+ years of current experience as a Certified Surgical First Assist License: Active American Heart Association BLS Certifications: Active NBSTSA Must-Have: - Current skills checklist for CSFA - Supervisory signed reference from within the past two years of employment Description: Provides peri-operative care of surgical patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Assures the physical environment is appropriately prepared before patient arrival. Assists the RN with developing the plan of care. Follows procedures to ensure patient and employee safety. Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing goals and objectives. Assists the surgical team during operative procedures. Uses instruments and medical devices effectively. Provides exposure, handles and/or cuts tissue, and provides hemostasis and sutures. Uses technology appropriately, including adhering to safety standards and infection prevention standards. Utilizes evidence-based tools and established policies, procedures, and standards of care. Engages in self-assessment, peer review, and completes mandatory education and competency assessments. Accepts responsibility for ongoing professional development. Participates in unit-based performance improvement activities and staff meetings. Supports change within the team. Arranges and inventories sterile set-up for operations and passes items as needed to the operating team. Assists in preparing and moving patients and in cleaning the operating room. Requested time off during the course of this assignment must be noted. Candidate must be able to work independently. Call rotation and holiday coverage may be required if needed.
