Medical Laboratory Scientist I, Molecular Location: 70 Francis Street, The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc. Shift: Day (United States of America) Schedule: 40 hours per week Employee type: Regular Compensation: $27.95 - $40.70 per hour plus a sign‑on bonus of $10,000. Job Summary The Medical Laboratory Scientist I (MLS I) in the CLIA testing personnel performs waived and non‑waived testing under general supervision. After successful completion of orientation, training, and competency assessment on all applicable instruments/methods, the MLS I applies laboratory standard operating procedures to deliver accurate results and maintain records. Responsibilities Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and record‑keeping. Maintain proficiency testing records and ensure consistency with patient sample analysis. Adhere to quality control policies; document all QC activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance. Implement laboratory policies when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels. Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or reporting; notify supervisors as required. If qualified under 493.1489(b)(5), perform high‑complexity testing only under the direct supervision of a qualified general supervisor under 493.1461. Perform qualitative and quantitative tests on blood, plasma, and other biofluids, using instruments or manual methods. Prepare samples and reagents per laboratory policies; operate instruments and analyzers as per operator manuals. Conduct routine equipment maintenance, function checks, calibrations, and troubleshoot instrument malfunctions; alert supervisor as needed. Perform quality control for reagents and instruments; document QC results and corrective actions. Interpret test results accurately; identify aberrant results and take appropriate action. Participate in QA/QI activities and proficiency testing program. Maintain competency on all instruments and stay current with technical developments; complete mandatory training. Document safety incidents using the hospital Safety Reporting System and inform supervisors. Adhere to hospital and laboratory policies, including infection control and safety plans. Provide clerical support, answer calls for critical, stat, or code results, and marshal other assigned duties. Monitor reagent and supply inventory; order as necessary to maintain adequate stock. Perform additional general laboratory duties as required (e.g., specimen logging, sample disposal, pipette washing). Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science or a related chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited college or university. ASCP certification or proven eligibility. Work Details Location: 70 Francis Street, Boston, MA. Remote work is not available. Hours: 40 per week, Day shift.
