Software Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance software systems. The role focuses on building cloud native applications and tooling using Java and Python on AWS, with an emphasis on robustness, scalability, and security. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver mission-critical systems and continuously improve development practices and operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain backend services and applications using Java and Python.
  • Build and deploy cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, and CloudWatch.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated test suites to ensure high code quality and rapid, reliable releases.
  • Apply secure coding practices and work with security engineers to integrate authentication, authorization, encryption, and logging controls.
  • Perform code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes and improvements.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and systems engineers to translate requirements into technical designs and deliverables.
  • Document architecture, designs, APIs, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Optimize application performance and cost in cloud environments; participate in capacity planning and scaling decisions.

Qualifications

  • Must have TS/SCI Clearance with an active Polygraph
  • Must be a Maryland Resident
  • 7+ years of experience working on cleared federal contracts
  • Proficiency in modern Java, AWS, and Python
  • Solid understanding of networking, security fundamentals, and secure coding practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.
