Food Service Substitute

Assist with food preparation, serving, and clean up. Handle financial transactions of the students and staff.

Assist with the preparation and serving of foods, according to instructions provided by the Head Cook or the Food Service Director. Follow state and local health and safety regulations for the proper handling and storage of food, and the cleaning of cafeteria equipment. Receive money from customers and keep accurate records of the transactions. Prepare a daily deposit for the food service director to pick up.

Observe all other safety and health regulations of the school district. Maintain an appropriate personal appearance. Serve as a role model in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Head Cook or the Food Service Director.

High School diploma or G.E.D., preferred. Ability to operate all kitchen equipment. Ability to interpret and modify recipes. Willingness to participate in continuing education in such topics as dietary information, State and Federal regulations and technology. Strong basic math skills. Ability to operate cash registers, calculators and adding machines. Basic computer skills, or willingness to learn those skills if needed to perform the duties of the position. Ability to be bonded.

Kitchen equipment; for example, dishwashers, ovens, slicers, steam kettles. Office machines, such as calculators, computers, word processors, adding machines. Cash register. Calculator. Adding machine.

Frequent use of noisy and hazardous kitchen equipment. Requirement to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Exposure to chemicals used in cleaning and disinfecting. Exposure to extreme heat and cold. Repetitive hand motions are used in such activities as stirring, assembling, and scooping. Work hours may be extended occasionally, in order to complete an essential job or to comply with rules regarding bank deposits. Potential exposure to unruly children. Potential exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and tissue.
