This Phlebotomist I role focuses on performing high-volume blood draws and specimen collection while supporting daily operations in a busy patient service center environment. The position involves troubleshooting collection and processing issues, assisting with training, and recommending workflow improvements to ensure accurate, timely, and safe specimen handling. As a float phlebotomist, you will rotate across multiple locations and work closely with a team to deliver courteous, professional service to patients of all ages.
Responsibilities- Perform venipuncture and other blood draw procedures using straight needles and butterfly needles in a fast-paced setting.
- Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and protocols.
- Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all information for accuracy before processing.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the specific test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or order to ensure complete accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport, following required procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
- Store specimens at the appropriate temperature and place them in the correct collection containers or tubes with accurate labeling.
- Follow specific protocols and procedures for specimen handling and transport to preserve quality and compliance.
- Update patient information and documentation accurately in the system as part of the collection workflow.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks to support a safe and compliant work area.
- Understand and fully interpret physicians’ orders to ensure correct tests and collections are performed.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
- Attend required annual department trainings and apply updated procedures and standards to daily work.
- Answer telephone calls professionally and read laboratory results as needed to respond to inquiries.
- Assist with troubleshooting issues related to specimen collection, processing, or workflow and recommend improvements.
- Support training efforts by demonstrating proper collection techniques and best practices to colleagues when needed.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team in a patient service center environment while also managing tasks independently when required.
- Handle a high daily volume of blood draws, typically ranging from approximately 80 to 160 collections per day.
- Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required.
- Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draws, venipuncture, and specimen collection.
- Ability to use straight needles and butterfly needles safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail when labeling, matching requisitions, and verifying test orders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and communication tasks.
- Ability to understand and accurately follow physicians’ orders and laboratory protocols.
- Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations and the ability to comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
- High School Diploma or GED, with 0–2 years of overall related experience.
- Effective communication skills to explain procedures to patients and respond to telephone inquiries.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment handling 80–160 blood draws per day.
- Experience working in a patient service center, laboratory, or hospital setting.
- Experience updating patient information and maintaining accurate records.
- Familiarity with centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and packaging specimens for transport.
- Experience recording maintenance data and performing decontamination procedures.
- Comfort working with patients of all ages.
- Ability to float and adapt to multiple locations as needed.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing department and safety training.
This is a float Phlebotomist I position based in a patient service center environment, supporting multiple locations including Delran, Hainesport, Columbus, Burlington, Medford, and Mount Laurel. You will work as part of a collaborative team while performing high-volume specimen collections. The typical schedule includes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The role involves handling 80–160 blood draws per day, working with patients of all ages, and using standard phlebotomy equipment such as straight and butterfly needles, centrifuges, and specimen transport materials. Training occurs on site at the assigned location, with safety training provided on the first day. The environment emphasizes adherence to safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and professional, courteous patient interaction.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
