Description:

Summary: The primary role of a phlebotomist is to aid in the execution of various assigned tasks, problem solving, training, and suggesting improvements in workflow.

Duties:

Experience in blood collection, specimen labeling, specimen centrifugation, maintenance data recording, decontamination, patient information updates, etc.

Gathers and preserves specimens following established protocols.

Clearly and politely explains the venipuncture process and/or other specimen collection procedures as needed.

Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Comprehends all physician orders thoroughly.

Matches specimen tubes with laboratory requisition forms. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens based on test orders.

Ensures 100% accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.

Packs specimens for transportation.

Stores specimen samples at required temperatures, places them in appropriate containers/tubes, labels accurately, follows specified protocols for transport, and maintains specimen integrity in compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Attends annual departmental trainings.

Answers phone calls and provides necessary information from laboratory results.

Minimum Requirements:

Valid state-required Phlebotomy certification

At least 5 years of experience in venipuncture in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

High School Diploma or GED
