Full-time Police Investigator

Grambling State University is seeking to hire a Full-time Police Investigator.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of law enforcement experience. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Investigates crimes by interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects.
  • Examines crime scenes to obtain clues and gather evidence; processes and supervises crime scenes through the collection, preservation, documentation, and analysis of evidence.
  • Prepares and files detailed investigative reports.
  • Interacts with other law enforcement agencies and the district attorney's office to collect and distribute criminal intelligence information.
  • Escorting prisoners to police station and having law violators booked on charges.
  • Pursuing and apprehending fleeing suspects (climbing fences or walls, jumping ditches, running up to several blocks, etc.)
  • Processes evidence, prepares court cases, and provides legal testimony.
  • Supervises law enforcement personnel at crime scenes.
  • Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment

Standard Work Schedule: 6:00 AM-6:00 PM 6:00 PM-6:00 AM

Applicants with the following knowledge, skills and abilities are encouraged to apply:

  • Experience conducting investigations, gathering and analyzing information, organizing evidence, and drawing sound conclusions.
  • Ability to prepare reports and legal documentation, communicate effectively in writing and verbally, and provide testimony or depositions when required.
  • Experience supervising or training staff and building effective working relationships with officials and stakeholders at all levels.

Compensation: The Police Investigator position offers an entrance rate of $47,340.80 annually. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rule 6.5(g).
