General Ledger Accountant Job Description


Position Summary


We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated General Ledger Accountant to join our accounting team. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, supporting the month-end close process, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and thrives in a collaborative environment.


Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Perform monthly account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP.
• Analyze financial data and investigate variances.
• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting.
• Assist with internal and external audits by providing requested documentation.
• Support fixed asset accounting, accruals, prepaid expenses, and intercompany transactions.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and increase efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial reporting and operational initiatives.
• Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 2-5 years of general ledger or corporate accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP preferred).
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Skills

• CPA or CPA-eligible preferred but not required.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
