The Dental Hygienist has the responsibility of providingpreventive, therapeutic, and educational hygiene services for the patients ofthe University of Illinois at Mile Square Health Center Dental Clinics.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Works administratively on the recall system
• Schedules patients that are overdue for their prophylaxisand periodontal maintenance appointments
• Examines teeth and surrounding hard and soft tissues fordisease, lesions and other abnormal conditions
• Removes supra and sub gingival soft/hard deposits and stainfrom the teeth and endosseous dental implants
• Records periodontal charting in the electronic health record
• Provides oral hygiene aids and educates patients on oralhygiene care
• Assists with several aspects of research in patient outcomesassessments, including scheduling patient appointments, assisting in patientassessment, providing prophylaxis, sealants and collection/compiling/analyzingdata
• Processes digital dental radiographs (intraoral, panoramic,and occlusal)
• Administers local medicaments to periodontal involved areas
• Administers anesthetic and nitrous in accordance tolicensure guidelines
• Administers fluoride
• Takes preliminary impressions
• Records patient vitals
• Sterilization and disinfection as needed
• Other duties as assigned
• Perform other related duties and participate in specialprojects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

1. Current/valid licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Illinois.
2. Possession of a current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of instruments and aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures
• Communicates effectively with faculty, students, staff, and patients.
• Ability to maintain an effective recall program and maintain a productiveenvironment.
• Intermediate level of experience with computer software such as Excel, Word,and electronic health records (EHR).
• Ability to obtain and record basic medical and dental histories and informationand updates patient appointment records.
