Position Summary:

Blackburn Consulting is seeking a full-time Project Engineer or Geologist to work on engineering and geology projects. Project Engineers and Geologists at Blackburn Consulting work under the direction of the Director of Geotechnical Services and senior firm leadership. This candidate has 0-2+ years of experience in a project-based, geotechnical engineering related field. This position requires travel (<15%) to project related sites, critical thinking, and the ability to learn and adopt project-based problem solving.

Blackburn Consulting provides geotechnical, geo-environmental, construction, forensics and lab engineering services throughout California with offices in Auburn, West Sacramento, Fresno, Marin, and Escondido. We have an extensive geotechnical and materials testing lab in West Sacramento, CA, and are undergoing the accreditation process for a new geotechnical and materials lab in Escondido, CA. We focus mostly on public works including flood control and transportation. Blackburn has been in business since 1998 and is employee owned and operated.

Technical Duties:

• Works in a learning capacity and receives on-the-job training in fieldwork, testing and inspection, laboratory testing, and engineering analysis

• Prepares simple designs, calculations and draft reports

• Gathers and compiles data at the direction of Project Managers or Sr. Engineers

• Historical and analytical project research • Engages in simple data and results analysis

• Performs laboratory tests

Essential Duties:

• Communication with team members, takes direction well from others

• Basic understanding of budgets, ability to track time and expenses

• Coordinate with multiple parties to complete work

• Use and manipulate basic CAD and pdf software

Essential Abilities:

• Communication skills internally and externally

• Multi-task between projects

• Ability to deliver a high-quality deliverable in a timely manner

• Technical writing

• Interpersonal skills

• Willingness to learn and grow

Technical Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or geology with EIT or GIT

• 0-2+ years of relevant experience

• Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle

• Computer Savvy (Windows 12, Autodesk Civil 3D, GIS, Adobe)

Physical Requirements:

• Read, write, and speak English

• Communicate clearly in person and over telephone

• Visual acuity to perform job duties

• Physical ability to bend, reach, stand, walk, sit, push and pull up to 40lbs of weight

• Physical ability to hand auger
