About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Oncology Acute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active Illinois license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS; ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Must-Have: Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens and administration. Description: The unit consists of 19 private beds. Staffing ratios vary based on unit census, typically 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights. Specific medication therapies may require a 1:1 RN assignment. Common patient diagnoses include all types of cancer, with a focus on lymphoma and leukemia, hematology, medical patients, and radiation oncology. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common set-rate drips include heparin and chemotherapy (such as 24-hour bags of methotrexate). A Charge Nurse is present 24/7, and may take an assignment if needed. Patient Care Technicians are utilized on the unit, with ratios of 3 PCTs during the day shift and 2 during nights when at full census. Registered Nurses are only responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment; they do not interpret telemetry strips. The unit uses a house-wide telemetry system, and Philips monitors are in use. The scheduling consists of 12-hour shifts with varied start times. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Holiday requirements consist of working every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Traveling Registered Nurses are added to the float rotation as needed. Floating could include shifts of 4 hours or more. The unit utilizes a specific EMR documentation system for patient records. Additional orientation time of 24 to 36 hours may be required.
