Perfusionist - FT - TJUH, Abington and Torresdale

Job Details The primary function of the Staff Perfusionist is the safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment (heart/lung machine, veno‑venous bypass, ventricular assist devices, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) during medical or surgical procedures that require support or replacement of the patient’s cardiopulmonary/circulatory function. The Perfusionist also sets up, delivers, manages, maintains, and operates ancillary services, devices and equipment, including intra‑aortic balloon pumps, autologous blood recovery systems, ventricular assist devices, ECMO and point‑of‑care laboratory testing equipment. Service is provided to adults (18‑64 years), older adults (65 years and older), and the frail elderly with consideration of functional/developmental age. After‑hours, weekend, and holiday call is required. Responsibilities Safely operate and manage extracorporeal circulation equipment during procedures. Set up, deliver, manage, maintain, and operate ancillary services, devices, and equipment. Provide care for adults, older adults, and frail elderly, ensuring appropriate functional age considerations. Participate in on‑call rotations, including after‑hours, weekend, and holiday service. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited perfusion school (or began perfusion career prior to April 15, 1981 and has 2 years of college with emphasis in science). Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or science field preferred. Licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine, with biannual renewal. Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, or credential‑eligible by ACBP. Certification Requirements New graduates from accredited perfusion schools must pass both the written and clinical simulation portions of the certification exam within 1 year of employment. Board‑eligible candidates who have taken the certification exam three times or more without passing are not considered for employment. Board‑eligible candidates who have not yet taken or have taken the exam less than three times without passing must pass both the written and clinical simulation portions of the certification exam within 2 years of employment.
