The Field Service Technician I provides on-site technical service and support at a large pulp and paper manufacturing facility in Longview, WA. This hands-on role focuses on maintaining and troubleshooting chemical feed and pumping systems, managing chemical inventory, and supporting basic water quality and process testing. • Provide on-site service and technical support at a large industrial manufacturing facility, ensuring reliable operation of chemical treatment systems and related equipment.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain chemical feed systems, pumps, hoses, valves, piping, and associated mechanical components.
• Monitor chemical treatment programs to ensure proper product application, dosing, and performance in support of plant processes.
• Safely receive, handle, transfer, and store industrial chemicals, including polymers, coagulants, acids, caustics, and specialty treatment products, in accordance with safety and environmental guidelines.
• Manage chemical inventory levels by tracking usage, conducting inventory audits, and coordinating timely replenishment needs.
• Perform routine field testing, sample collection, and basic laboratory analysis to verify water quality, system performance, and treatment effectiveness.
• Document service activities, test results, equipment inspections, and inventory transactions accurately and completely using basic computer applications and recordkeeping tools.
• Identify operational issues or system abnormalities and recommend corrective actions to improve performance, reliability, and safety.
• Maintain strong working relationships with plant personnel and communicate service findings, test results, and recommendations in a clear and professional manner.
• Follow all safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company operating procedures while working around industrial equipment, machinery, and chemicals.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and technical training programs to enhance skills, processes, and overall service quality.
• Work independently with minimal supervision after training, managing daily tasks, prioritizing service calls, and meeting commitments.
• Perform hands-on mechanical maintenance using appropriate hand tools and equipment, including tasks that require standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and walking extensively throughout the facility.
• Support preventive maintenance activities on chemical feed and pumping systems to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
• Demonstrate accountability and reliability by consistently meeting work schedules, shift requirements, and quality standards for all assigned responsibilities.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot pumps, valves, piping, and related mechanical equipment.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and strictly following safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after completing training.
• Strong communication skills and a customer service mindset when interacting with plant personnel and stakeholders.
• Ability to learn technical processes, industrial equipment, and chemical treatment applications quickly and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for managing inventory, documentation, and testing activities.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications and recordkeeping for logging service work, test results, and inventory transactions.
• Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment around machinery, chemicals, and varying environmental conditions.
• Physical ability to walk extensively throughout a large industrial facility, often 10,00020,000 steps per day.
• Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas safely.
• Ability to perform hands-on mechanical maintenance and use hand tools safely.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.

• Previous experience as a Field Service Technician, Maintenance Technician, Mechanical Technician, or in a similar industrial role.
• Experience in chemical, water treatment, pulp and paper, manufacturing, industrial maintenance, or process industries.
• Knowledge of pumps, hydraulic systems, piping, valves, and mechanical equipment used in industrial environments.
• Experience handling industrial chemicals and following chemical safety procedures and best practices.
• Basic laboratory, water quality, or process testing experience, including sample collection and analysis.
• Inventory management or materials coordination experience in an industrial or technical setting.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and lab technique in previous roles.
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills for diagnosing equipment and process issues.
• Customer service excellence and communication skills for building effective relationships with plant personnel.
• Accountability, reliability, and strong time management skills for managing daily tasks and meeting deadlines.
• Willingness to engage in continuous learning and adaptability to new processes, technologies, and equipment.

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime shift. Work is highly hands-on and field-based, requiring extensive walking throughout the facility, frequent climbing of stairs and ladders, and accessing elevated work areas. The technician works in areas with varying temperatures, noise levels, and environmental conditions while handling industrial chemicals such as polymers, coagulants, acids, caustics, and specialty treatment products. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety and environmental procedures, proper use of hand tools and testing equipment, and accurate documentation using basic computer applications. Attire is aligned with industrial safety requirements, including appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment suitable for a manufacturing and chemical handling setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $33.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
