Senior Audit Associate – Employee Benefit Plans & Not-for-Profit Organizations

$95,000 - $115,000 DOE

West Caldwell, NJ

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Audit Associate to join their team. This role will primarily focus on audits of Employee Benefit Plans (EBP) and Not-for-Profit (NFP) organizations. The Senior Audit Associate is responsible for leading engagement fieldwork, supervising staff, maintaining strong client relationships, and ensuring audit engagements are completed efficiently while meeting professional standards and firm quality expectations.

Essential Responsibilities

• Plan and perform audit engagements for Employee Benefit Plans, including defined contribution, defined benefit, health and welfare, and ESOP plans.
• Lead audit engagements for Not-for-Profit organizations, including organizations subject to Uniform Guidance (Single Audits), when applicable.
• Prepare and review audit workpapers, financial statements, and required disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable auditing standards.
• Evaluate internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvements.
• Research technical accounting and auditing issues and document conclusions.
• Supervise, train, and mentor staff accountants throughout engagements.
• Review staff work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards.
• Communicate effectively with clients regarding audit findings, requests, and recommendations.
• Coordinate engagement timelines, budgets, and staffing to meet deadlines.
• Assist managers and partners with engagement planning, risk assessments, and client communications.
• Maintain current knowledge of accounting, auditing, and regulatory developments affecting Employee Benefit Plans and Not-for-Profit organizations.
• Participate in business development initiatives and contribute to maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• CPA license or active progress toward CPA certification preferred.
• Three to five years of recent public accounting audit experience.
• Experience auditing Employee Benefit Plans and/or Not-for-Profit organizations preferred.
• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GAAS, and AICPA auditing standards.
• Familiarity with Uniform Guidance and Single Audits is a plus.
• Experience with audit software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
