Nurse Practitioner Schedule: Full Time Pay Range: $60.00 - $72.00 / Hourly Shift: Day shift Hours: 8-430p M-F About this role Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Robert C. Cantu Concussion Clinic Medical Director and the Center for Rehabilitative & Sports Therapies Director and in direct collaboration with supervising physicians, performs duties to assist supervising physicians in a wide range of clinical tasks. Responsible for managing a wide range of outpatient clinical duties, as well as emergency situations, while adhering to standard practices and established procedures. This position ensures quality and safe delivery of care to patients of all ages. Job Functions: o Performs complete admission history and physical exams, and daily notes on assigned clinic and center patients. o Evaluates, manages and treats concussion patients as well as assists with center patients. o Facilitates the communication of evaluations with primary care physicians. o Develops and initiates the plan of care during the office examination and collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals and family members. o Performs a complete concussion assessment including history of all previous concussions, risk factors, and symptoms, as well as current concussion assessment. o Differentiates normal test results from abnormal findings such as neuropsychological test results, MRIs and CTs. o Identifies wellness and risk factors; communicating relevant data and providing complete, accurate written documentation in the patient's medical record. o Obtains appropriate authorizations required for all treatments and medication orders. Writes and signs preliminary intake assessments and outpatient forms as allowed, including necessary medical care instructions. o Educates and actively involves patient and family members in care. o Identifies and manages psychological patient issues and refers appropriately. o Takes patient and family member phone calls and advises as necessary in between patient appointments. o Provides appropriate and timely communication with the referring physicians and other referring healthcare personnel. o Order tests and procedures as indicated. o Ensures that treatment plan is individualized based on the family and patient needs. o Prescribes, in collaboration with or at the direction of the Medical Director and Assistant Medical Director, medications specific to the patient's diagnosis and level of medication tolerance. o Meets all the guidelines for continuing education/recertification for continued practice in the Department of Surgery at Emerson Hospital. o Provides in-service educational seminars to various departments on clinical information related to program, such as clinical pathways o Updates clinical protocols when approved by physician(s ) o Attendance to monthly office meetings. o Assists Medical Director in educating clinic staff o Assists Director of Center for Rehabilitative and Sports Therapies in evaluation of patients. o Works with area schools both private and public in education on concussion. o Assesses and evaluates concussion patients at area private schools as directed by Medical Director. o Maintains and supports patient's rights to care, privacy and respect. o Other duties as assigned from time to time. Minimum Qualifications • Education o Completion of a Masters' Degree in Nursing and an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program required. • Experience o Previous experience with concussion patients strongly preferred. o Previous experience with Sports Medicine patients strongly preferred. o Previous experience in the area of neurology strongly preferred. • Licensure and/or Certification o Current license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Massachusetts required. o National certification as a Nurse Practitioner of Physician Assistant required (this is required for Massachusetts licensure). (ARNP) or (PA-C) o BLS healthcare provider required. • Skills o Excellent customer service skills. o Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. o Computer skills required. o Ability to maintain confidential information.
