Full Stack Engineer, Consultant (Hybrid)

Job Title

Backed by a major non-profit healthcare consortium, our client is a newly formed, well-funded healthcare technology spin-off on a mission to fix a fundamentally broken industry. They are building the universal operating system for healthcare—an AI-native, event-driven platform connecting payers, providers, and patients. This is not about maintaining legacy systems; it is about building a disruptive, intelligent data hub from the ground up.

This is a hands-on, coding-heavy role for a builder, not an enterprise architect. You will write production code every day across the full platform—front-end, back-end, and full-stack work spanning AI and chat, document processing, analytics, and claims processing, all on a single modern tech stack.

The environment is startup-minded with CI/CD and full end-to-end ownership. Developers own setup, testing, and integration testing without handing work off across silos, which lets the team move faster than a traditional enterprise structure allows. We are looking for self-driven engineers who push back with suggestions rather than waiting for direction.

Must be eligible to work on W2 without sponsorship. Not eligible for C2C.

Pay Rate: $75–$85/hr

Duration: 6-month contract-to-hire

Location: Hybrid; 2x/week in office—San Diego, Long Beach, Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, or Oakland (SF Bay Area)

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of major full stack features or services with cross-team or cross-product impact, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards
• Lead design and delivery of complex services or systems with cross-team impact, ensuring scalability, reliability, and integration across components
• Develop secure, testable, and maintainable code aligned with modern architectural patterns
• Implement system integrations and manage reliable data models for distributed components
• Ensure applications are cloud-ready and compatible with established CI/CD workflows
• Own technical decision-making for complex initiatives, evaluating trade-offs across performance, scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability
• Leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, code quality, and documentation, while critically applying outputs
• Serve as a technical leader for delivery teams, influencing architecture, design, and implementation decisions through expertise rather than formal authority

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, currently hands-on at a Senior, Staff, or Principal level. This is a builder role; candidates whose recent work is primarily architecture or oversight are not a fit.
• Deep, current expertise in Node.js and TypeScript. This is the core stack; Java and.NET / C# backgrounds are not a match.
• Strong front-end experience with React.
• Deep experience building APIs and back-end services.
• Self-driven working style with a track record of proposing improvements and pushing back constructively rather than waiting for direction.
• Strong communication skills with proactive, tech-lead-caliber reporting expected at the principal level.
• Cloud-native development experience in Azure, hands-on with Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, and Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Strong understanding of data isolation, scalability, and system design.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and integrations.

Nice to Have

• AI integration experience.
• API gateways / MuleSoft.
• Healthcare or other regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2).
