Organization VUH Advanced Practice Provider Position Hours Full time, 3 13-hour shifts per week Night shift Inpatient position Job Description VUMC is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Inpatient Advanced Lung Disease (ALDS) team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing advanced clinical care and support to patients undergoing lung transplantation, from pre‑transplant evaluation to post‑transplant management, and other advanced pulmonary conditions. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive evaluations, including medical history review, physical examinations, and diagnostic testing; obtain and document a health history; perform and document complete, system‑focused, or symptom‑specific physical examinations with assessment and plan of care. Collaborate with transplant surgeons, pulmonologists, and other health‑care professionals to develop individualized treatment plans for patients. Order, perform, interpret, and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques and supporting diagnostic information and procedures where indicated. Prescribe therapeutic interventions, pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical, to achieve expected outcomes. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives to optimize patient outcomes. Provide education and support to patients and families throughout the transplant process, including pre‑operative preparation and post‑operative care. Provide specialty‑specific consultation services upon request and within scope of practice. Monitor and evaluate patients’ responses to treatment, adjusting therapy as necessary to optimize outcomes and minimize complications. Utilize evidence‑based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care. Initiate appropriate referrals and consultations. Facilitate the patient’s transition between and within health‑care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. Qualifications Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) / Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) required. Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, with licensure in Tennessee. Active Tennessee DEA license or ability to obtain. Prior clinical experience in critical care, pulmonary medicine, or transplant medicine preferred. Strong clinical assessment and decision‑making skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to manage complex medical conditions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to establish rapport with patients and collaborate effectively with health‑care team members.
