Job Summary Employment Status: Full time Shift: Day (United States of America) Facility: 2331 Franklin Rd - Roanoke Requisition Number: R158451 Position: Medical Assistant - Certified - Physical Medicine (Open) Responsibilities Provide basic clinical care to patients using technical skills and follow established standards. Collect patient assessment data (height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, symptoms, current medications) for licensed staff review. Transport patients through the office and prepare them for provider evaluations, including specimen collection, positioning for exams, medication review, and assistance during exams and procedures. Maintain work areas, exam rooms, x‑ray rooms, and labs in a clean and safe manner; restock supplies and instruments; sterilize reusable equipment as needed. Document patient information in the medical record promptly, including updates to treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, and patient concerns in compliance with Carilion Clinic policies. Observe all safety precautions and occupational health standards. Assist with laboratory procedures, such as collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference labs, and labeling all specimens with accurate patient identification as ordered. Perform diagnostic tests (EKG, audiogram, vision testing, spirometry) as appropriate for assessment by licensed staff. Assist with referral authorizations for specialists and pre‑authorization for testing and ancillary services per direction of licensed staff or provider. Greet patients and assist with check‑in and check‑out procedures; update patient demographic information. Answer phones, schedule appointments, and relay messages. Utilize automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. May administer oral and parenteral medications as authorized. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED. Experience: None required. Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Medical Assistant Certification via a recognized national professional association (e.g., American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Association of Healthcare Professionals, American Registry of Medical Assistants, National Healthcare Association). Provisional status may be accepted pending confirmation of certification exam pass. Life Support: AHA BLS‑HCP required. Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective communication and problem‑solving skills; strong computer skills for electronic medical record systems.
