This role involves leading the design and development of advanced electro‑mechanical laboratory soil testing equipment. Your expertise will drive the end-to‑end process from initial concept through to production, ensuring our products are robust and meet industry standards. Located in the Greater Boston region; temporary position. Key Responsibilities: Spearhead the creation and integration of electro‑mechanical systems for laboratory soil testing, ensuring seamless operation of mechanical and electrical components. Develop comprehensive engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation in line with regulatory and industry standards. Mentor and guide a team of engineers and technicians, overseeing prototype development and providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle. Conduct feasibility studies, performance analysis, and testing to refine design concepts for optimal reliability and manufacturability. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards. Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to negotiate contracts, source components, and monitor production schedules. Continuously enhance existing designs and processes based on feedback and emerging technologies. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of 10 years of experience in designing electro‑mechanical systems, ideally in laboratory equipment or similar industries. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and familiarity with simulation tools for mechanical and electrical systems. Experience with designing electronic schematics and PCB layouts using software like Altium. Solid background in robotics, automated controls, and industrial automation. Strong understanding of PID control principles, sensors, actuators, and their integration into mechanical designs. Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and the ability to work closely with electrical engineers. Proven track record in preparing detailed engineering documentation and managing production processes with external vendors. Expertise in machining processes and additive manufacturing technologies. Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and communicate effectively across teams. Familiarity with industry standards (ISO, EN, UL) and best practices related to electro‑mechanical equipment design. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with meticulous attention to detail. Preferred Skills: Exposure to soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, geophysics, or related fields. Knowledge of software programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python) for embedded systems and data analysis. Experience with FSM, ISR, DAC, and ADC interfacing.
