Overview

Position: Full-Time Nocturnist Gastroenterology

Location: Arlington, VA (DC Metro / DMV Area)

 

VHC Health is seeking a Board-Certified Nocturnist Gastroenterologist to join our growing, patient-centered program at our main hospital campus in Arlington, Virginia—a leading medical hub in the Washington, DC metro region.

 

This opportunity is ideal for Gastroenterologists interested in a dedicated overnight inpatient role, providing high-acuity GI care with a balanced schedule.

 

Opportunity Highlights

Schedule

· 7-on / 7-off block schedule

· Weekday shift hours: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM call (holding pager, availability for emergent procedures or in-house consults)

· Weekend shift hours: 5:00 PM Friday – 7:00 AM Monday (call coverage, holding pager, covering inpatient consults and procedures)

 

Position Responsibilities

· Provide clinical overnight inpatient gastroenterology services

· Manage acute GI conditions and other urgent/emergent presentations

· Collaborate closely with Emergency Medicine, ICU, and Hospitalist teams

· Ensure timely documentation and structured handoff to daytime GI physicians

· Participate in quality improvement, compliance, and risk management initiatives

· Support VHC Health’s mission to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care

 

Qualifications

· MD or DO from an accredited medical school

· Completion of Gastroenterology fellowship

· Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Gastroenterology

· Experience with inpatient GI and endoscopy preferred (new graduates with strong training encouraged to apply)

· Eligible for or licensed by the Virginia Department of Health Professions

Qualifications

Purpose & Scope:  

The physician is a member of the healthcare team who works in collaboration with other staff to provide comprehensive healthcare services to patients. The scope of practice of each physician is defined through the health system’s credentialing and privileging committee.

The Physician supports objectives, budget, and performance metrics at the individual level.

Supports all medical activities at the individual level including implementation of quality control standards, risk management and compliance programs.

The role of a physician is to provide quality clinical care to those individuals who have chosen VHC Health in a timely manner to meet the needs of our patients. 

Education:  

Doctorate from accredited medical school is required.

Experience:

One year of medical/surgical experience is required.

Certifications/Licensure:

Licensed to Practice Medicine by the Virginia Department of Health Professions is required.
