The Behavioral Health Therapist will work as part of an interdisciplinary, team-based program that cares for patients enrolled in the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) program at Dell Medical School. TCHATT provides telemedicine or telehealth programs to school districts to help identify and assess the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents and provide access to mental health services.

This is a state funded position sponsored by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). TCMHCC was created by the 86th Texas Legislature to leverage the expertise and capacity of the health-related institutions of higher education to address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in this state in relation to children and adolescents.

The University of Texas, Dell Medical School (DMS), is a Health Research Institute (HRI) for the Texas Children's Mental Health Care Consortium. The program and projects of the Dell Medical School, HRI work to address the clinical needs of the programs which address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in Texas for children and adolescents.

This position has an end date of 08/31/26 renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals. Funding is expected to continue.

A flexible working arrangement agreement can be accommodated based upon the needs of the program and with supervisor approval. Remote work will require reliable internet access and a suitable private workspace free from distractions.

Purpose

This position will support TCHATT patients, guardians, and schools to improve a child's overall functioning by providing counseling and care management services using a patient-centered, collaborative approach with an interdisciplinary team. The Behavioral Health Therapist will conduct behavioral and mental health assessments, formulate and implement comprehensive assessments and individualized treatment plans, and complete interdisciplinary team consultation as needed.

The therapist will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, ability to work independently with a strong attention to detail, effective oral and written communication skill, and will possess a commitment to professional ethical and practice standards.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and provides diagnostic impressions. Formulates treatment plan according to evidence based practices and protocol. Conduct individual, family and/or group therapy sessions, as needed. Monitors patients for suicidal/homicidal intent and ensures patient safety, if necessary. Undertake crisis intervention, as needed.

• Participates in all supervision, feedback, and quality assurance checks. Maintains client records and performs data entry.

• Coordinates with referring practitioners, individuals, and family members throughout treatment. Collaborates with project coordinators and administrative assistants to coordinate patient visits.

• Attends appropriate training workshops, meetings and client staffing, as required.

• Other Duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed as an LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent practiced clinician in the State of Texas.

• Three (3) years of professional work experience.

• Experience working with children, adolescents, and/or family systems.

• Strong technology skills, including the ability to perform computer tasks and use the electronic health record systems independently.

• Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual (English and Spanish).

• Proficiency in at least one electronic medical records system, e.g., Athena.

• Readiness to adopt new techniques and practices as determined by clinical leadership.

Salary Range

$68,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

• May work around standard office conditions

• Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

• Occasional weekend, evening, and overtime work as needed to meet deadlines

• Occasional interstate, intrastate, and international travel

• Field work as necessary

• This position will initially be remote. The supervisor will assess the operational needs of Dell Medical School and communicate expectations for on-site work, which may be up to 40 hours per week. Work arrangements will be reviewed regularly, and advance notice will be provided for any changes. Remote work requires reliable internet access and a suitable, distraction-free workspace.
