• Work Schedule: 12 hour shifts
• Weekend Requirement: Every Third Weekend

Position Summary

The Clinical Resource Nurse provides clinical support 24/7 across the Middlesex Health main hospital campus, assisting in providing support to staff as well as patients. This role requires expert clinical nursing skills and knowledge.

Under minimal supervision the CRN will complete the following:

• Assist clinical staff with complex patient care
• Assist clinical staff with transport of clinically compromised patients
• Coordinate and support the care of unstable patients
• Insert IV catheters
• Support all staff including Nurse residents. This includes checking in with them throughout their shifts
• Completing admission assessments and performs medication reconciliation for newly admitted patients either on a unit or holding in the Emergency Department
• Provide timely response to staff requests for clinical assistance
• Acts as liaison between units to coordinate safe and appropriate patient placement
• Identifies situations of clinical risk and acts to decrease such risk
• Provides clinical support to after hour interventional procedures (endo, PACU and IR)
• Responds timely to RRTs/Team As
• Encourages critical thinking among staff to encourage positive outcomes
• Ensures accuracy of various high acuity/low volume care sets
• Supports nursing by covering lunch breaks for staff on low census units
• Round on all units and offer assistance when necessary
• Assume patient assignment if census/staffing requires

Minimum Qualifications:

• Expert Clinical Nursing Skill and Knowledge
• Current, unrestricted Connecticut Nursing License
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
• 2 years previous emergency/critical care experience
• 5 years as Registered Nurse
• Cultural awareness
• ACLS

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior like experience
• Board of Nursing Certification
• Experience in an interdisciplinary team
• Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training
• Prior PACU/Endoscopy experience
• Prior EKOS/TIPS experience
