Responsibilities Move trailers to and from unload/load doors and throughout the yard. Physically load, unload, and sort packages by hand, using lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and placing operations. Perform trailer switches: hook and move a parked trailer from the yard to a load/unload door or vice versa. Communicate with management and/or central control to coordinate trailer movements. Document trailer moves using the Yard Management System or switcher cards. Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections on switcher equipment. Apply yard switching safety processes and procedures. When required, perform package handler functions: hand‑to‑surface package handling; load/unload packages onto delivery vehicles, trailers, conveyor carts, and load gratings; lift, carry, push, and pull packages continuously for 2–4 hour shifts; scan packages, read labels and charts, verify numbers, memorize information, and sort accordingly. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a DOT file. No education or experience required; 6 months as a package handler or switching/CDL operator experience preferred. Ability to understand and follow work duties and safety methods. Ability to discern numbers and information for correct package sorting. Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand‑held scanners, chutes, and unloading devices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; works well in a fast‑paced team environment. Job Conditions Work may involve hot and cold temperatures. May be exposed to fumes.
