Job Title Higher Ed Attorney (Law Fellow) Work Information Location: South Carolina Employment Type: Full Time Hours per Week: 37.5 Work Schedule: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm with one hour lunch Salary: $60,000 Advertised Job Summary Rice Fellows will conduct legal research, draft memoranda, prepare written analyses, and assist with policy or regulatory review to support organizational objectives. Fellows will provide litigation or project support as assigned, ensuring accuracy, attention to detail, and adherence to deadlines. Fellows will also engage in client‑facing and program‑support activities including client intake, interviews, fact gathering, and communication with stakeholders. Qualifications Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a caseload. Preferred: Juris Doctor degree from the USC Joseph F. Rice School of Law. Job Duties Conduct legal research, draft memoranda, prepare written analyses, and assist with policy or regulatory review to support organizational objectives (40 % of time). Engage in client‑facing and program‑support activities including client intake, interviews, fact gathering, and communication with stakeholders; coordinate with supervising attorneys or program managers to ensure consistent, high‑quality service (20 % of time). Utilize case‑management software to promote efficiency and collaboration; maintain organized electronic and hard‑copy records; ensure contemporaneous and accurate timekeeping in accordance with program requirements (10 % of time). Provide compliance, administrative, and operational support to the host organization; assist with monitoring deadlines, preparing reports, managing workflows, and supporting organizational initiatives that advance program outcomes and access‑to‑justice goals (25 % of time). Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support program goals, organizational operations, or emerging priorities assigned by supervisors (5 % of time).
