Job Title: Machine Operator – Pre-Production
Job Description
This role focuses on operating a variety of machines in the pre-production department to prepare metal parts for the assembly area. You will process raw metal materials to specified lengths and diameters, apply coatings and linings, and ensure each part meets strict quality standards before it moves to the next stage of production. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and consistent documentation of production and quality results.
Responsibilities
- Operate coating machines, polishing stations, poly lining machines, Teflon lining machines, and other production equipment according to established standards.
- Prepare raw metal materials to the correct length and diameter, including cutting and sizing parts (approximately 0.5 inches to 2 inches in diameter and about 3 feet long).
- Prepare products for welders by ensuring parts are properly cut, cleaned, and ready for subsequent processes.
- Coat products using designated machines and load parts into oven equipment to solidify coatings according to process requirements.
- Line parts with the correct internal lining to meet product specifications and quality requirements.
- Perform visual inspections and functional testing to verify that parts meet quality standards before passing them to the next stage.
- Read and follow work instructions, drawings, and production schedules to complete tasks accurately and on time.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic to intermediate machine or process issues to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
- Maintain accurate records of production output and quality results using SAP and other systems, as well as updating whiteboards for team communication and meetings.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively as part of daily production and machine operation tasks.
- Promote and follow safety procedures at all times, including adherence to Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) processes.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying and reporting quality or process issues and submitting improvement ideas.
- Handle materials using overhead cranes, hoists, and, where applicable, forklifts in a safe and efficient manner.
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with coworkers to maintain a high level of communication and shared responsibility for quality.
- Ensure every part passed to the next stage of production is correct and meets all quality requirements.
- Ability to stand for the entirety of the shift.
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on producing quality parts.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, with most materials moved by overhead hoist.
- Experience in a manufacturing or general production environment preferred.
- Experience using hand and power tools in a production or mechanical setting.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English to follow work instructions and documentation.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, and working with units of measurement.
- Comfort operating production machinery and equipment in a fast-paced environment.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot basic machine issues.
- Willingness and ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe or composite-toe shoes.
- Ability to work assigned shift hours consistently and adapt to training on a different shift as needed.
- Ability to read blueprints is preferred.
- Quality control or quality inspection experience is a plus.
- Machine operation experience is required for higher skill tiers.
- Experience with overhead cranes and forklifts is beneficial.
- Background working with lathes, machining, or assembly line environments is an advantage.
- Experience performing changeovers and basic machine adjustments is helpful.
- Comfort working within a continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing environment.

Work Environment
This position is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility that prioritizes safety and quality over quantity. The work is performed primarily in the pre-production area, supporting assembly operations across the building. The standard schedule is on second shift, Monday through Friday, from approximately 3:45 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with initial training on first shift or a split shift for about six weeks or longer. Overtime may be required at times, including occasional weekends, and is typically communicated in advance. The facility utilizes Lean practices, ergonomic workstations, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) processes to enhance productivity, comfort, and equipment reliability. You will work with a variety of machinery, including coating equipment, polishing stations, poly and Teflon lining machines, ovens, overhead cranes and hoists, and other production tools and systems such as SAP. The environment is highly collaborative, with frequent use of whiteboards to track issues, communicate updates, and share improvement ideas. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toe or composite-toe shoes, safety glasses, and gloves, and a boot voucher is provided to help cover footwear costs. The dress code is typical for a manufacturing setting, focusing on safety, practicality, and comfort while working around machinery and materials.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $26.00/hr.
