VP of Revenue Cycle Management

The Vice President, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), is responsible for the strategic oversight and operational performance of Today’s Dental Network’s end-to-end dental revenue cycle operations across a growing multi-site dental organization. This includes all functions related to dental billing and collections, charge capture, insurance reimbursement, revenue integrity, patient financial services, payer relations, credentialing-related reimbursement impacts, and regulatory compliance.
This role requires deep, hands-on expertise in dental revenue cycle operations, dental insurance reimbursement, PPO/Fee-for-Service models, and multi-location dental practice operations. The VP, RCM will lead the development and execution of revenue cycle strategy to optimize financial performance, enhance operational efficiency, standardize processes across practices, and support scalable organizational growth through acquisitions and operational integration.
The VP, RCM partners closely with executive leadership, operations, finance, and clinical teams to align revenue cycle operations with organizational goals and drive sustainable revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Execution
- Define and execute the organization’s dental revenue cycle strategy in partnership with senior leadership.
- Drive initiatives that improve revenue capture, reimbursement accuracy, collections performance, and overall financial outcomes.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives focused on operational efficiency, scalability, and revenue optimization across multi-site dental practices.
- Support organizational growth initiatives, including acquisition integration and revenue cycle standardization across newly acquired offices.
- Develop scalable infrastructure, workflows, and accountability measures to support continued expansion.
Operations & Performance Management
- Oversee all dental revenue cycle functions, ensuring accurate and timely billing, collections, insurance follow-up, and patient financial processes across all locations.
- Provide oversight of dental-specific revenue cycle workflows including insurance verification, predeterminations, claims management, denials management, insurance aging, patient collections, and reimbursement reconciliation.
- Monitor and improve key dental revenue cycle KPIs including collections percentage, AR aging, adjusted production, write-offs, denial trends, reimbursement accuracy, and office-level financial performance.
- Establish, monitor, and report on operational and financial performance metrics to ensure accountability and transparency.
- Drive continuous process improvement initiatives tied to measurable operational and financial outcomes.
- Partner closely with operations and practice leadership to improve front-office revenue cycle execution and patient financial experience.
- Ensure all revenue cycle operations comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as payer requirements.
Payer Relations & Contracting
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with payer organizations, clearinghouses, and external revenue cycle partners.
- Lead payer contracting and reimbursement strategy efforts to optimize collections and patient access.
- Analyze payer performance trends, fee schedules, reimbursement structures, and denial patterns to identify improvement opportunities.
- Ensure contracts align with organizational financial goals and long-term revenue optimization initiatives.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop revenue cycle staff, fostering a high-performance, accountable culture.
- Assess team capabilities and organizational structure to ensure scalability and operational effectiveness.
- Provide ongoing coaching, development, and accountability to revenue cycle management teams.
- Build and maintain a culture aligned with TDN’s core values, operational excellence standards, and patient service expectations.
- Ensure teams are equipped to adapt to evolving payer requirements, dental industry trends, and organizational growth.
Communication & Collaboration
- Serve as a key liaison across finance, operations, clinical leadership, compliance, and executive teams to ensure alignment and strong revenue cycle performance.
- Communicate performance expectations, strategic priorities, operational risks, and financial outcomes clearly across all levels of the organization.
- Partner with regional and practice leadership teams to identify operational gaps and implement sustainable process improvements.
- Collaborate closely with acquisition and integration teams to support onboarding and operational transition efforts for newly acquired practices.
Governance & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and enforce revenue cycle policies, procedures, and best practices across the organization.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements related to dental billing, coding, collections, reimbursement, and payer compliance.
- Maintain oversight of compliance-related activities in partnership with internal compliance and operational leadership teams.
- Support audit readiness and risk mitigation initiatives related to revenue cycle operations and reimbursement practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in dental revenue cycle management, including multi-site dental organizations, DSOs, or complex dental group practices.
- Minimum 5 years of senior leadership experience overseeing large-scale dental revenue cycle operations in a high-growth or rapidly evolving environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in dental billing workflows, dental insurance reimbursement, PPO and Fee-for-Service models, payer contracting, and revenue optimization strategies.
- Required experience leading revenue cycle operations within a Dental Support Organization (DSO), multi-location dental group, or comparable dental healthcare organization.
- Experience integrating newly acquired dental practices into standardized revenue cycle operations strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting specialty dental practices such as oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, or pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, MHA, or related advanced degree preferred.
- Deep expertise in payer contracting, reimbursement strategy, and revenue optimization.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and collections practices.
- Experience with dental practice management systems and dental billing platforms such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, CareStack, or comparable systems strongly preferred.
- Proven success improving collections performance, reducing AR days, minimizing denials, and driving measurable financial improvement across multi-site operations.
- Strong analytical, operational, and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable operational plans.
- Demonstrated success leading organizational change, managing competing priorities, and driving accountability across large teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration, and relationship-building capabilities.
- Experience building KPI dashboards, performance accountability structures, and scalable operational processes preferred.
- Active participation in relevant dental or healthcare revenue cycle professional organizations preferred.
