Company Overview

We are a Heavy Civil and Wet Utility General Contractor specializing in municipal infrastructure projects across Maryland, the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and Delaware. Our work focuses on water, sewer, stormwater, and related civil construction for public agencies.

Position Summary

The Pipelayer installs, aligns, joins, and tests underground water, sewer, and storm drainage pipe systems on municipal heavy-civil and wet-utility projects. This skilled field role supports accurate grade, proper jointing, and safe trench operations while maintaining production and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lay, align, and join ductile iron, PVC, HDPE, concrete, and other pipe materials for water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems
• Establish and maintain line and grade using laser, transit, or string-line methods; set and check grades per cut sheets and plans
• Prepare trench bottoms, place bedding, and ensure proper pipe support and cover
• Make joints (gasketed, mechanical, fused, or sealed) to manufacturer and project specifications
• Assist with or direct excavation support, trench box placement, and safe entry/exit procedures
• Perform pressure testing, air testing, or mandrel testing as required; identify and correct defects
• Read and interpret plans, profiles, cut sheets, and utility maps
• Communicate clearly with foremen, equipment operators, and laborers regarding grade, alignment, and safety
• Follow all OSHA, company, and municipal safety requirements for trenching, confined space, and underground utilities

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years hands-on pipelaying experience on water, sewer, or storm systems (wet utilities preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to set grade with laser or traditional methods and produce accurate installations
• Familiarity with common pipe materials, fittings, restraints, and jointing methods used in municipal work
• Ability to read construction plans, profiles, and cut sheets
• Strong safety awareness regarding trenches, shoring, and underground utilities
• Valid driver’s license; reliable transportation to job sites
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
• High school diploma or GED preferred

Physical & Other Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, and position up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75–100 lbs occasionally with assistance
• Ability to work in trenches, on uneven terrain, climb in/out of excavations, bend, kneel, stoop, and stand for extended periods
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, mud)
• Travel within Maryland, D.C., Northern Virginia, and Delaware region (primarily local/regional day work)
• Willingness to work overtime, early starts, and occasional weekends as project schedules require
