Hiring Range Dependent on Experience and/or Qualifications Department Peds-Genetics and Metabolism - 412010 Posting Open Date 07/01/2025 Open Until Filled Yes Position Type Permanent Faculty Working Title Open Rank Physician Scientist for MPS Appointment Type Open Rank Vacancy ID FAC0005554 Full-time/Part-time Full-Time Permanent Hours Per Week 40 Fte 1 Position Location North Carolina, US Proposed Start Date 10/01/2025 Position Summary The Division of Genetics and Metabolism in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Physician Scientist to join the Dr. Joseph Muenzer MPS Research and Treatment Center. The role is full‑time, fixed term, variable track and/or tenure/tenure track. The candidate will serve as principal investigator for ongoing and new clinical research studies in mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) and will also perform clinical genetic activities. Responsibilities Dedicate 80% effort to translational research through the Muenzer MPS Center, including clinical trials for enzyme replacement therapies, gene therapy, and intrathecal drug delivery. Conduct 20% of time in clinical genetics: evaluate and manage patients with congenital abnormalities, connective tissue disorders, skeletal dysplasias, neurodegenerative disorders, and metabolic disorders in outpatient and inpatient settings. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, provide clinical oversight, and assist in trial recruitment and patient care. Apply for extramural funding and develop research proposals in areas of personal interest. Engage in teaching and scholarly activities as required by the institution. Minimum Education And Experience Requirements MD, board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics/Biochemical Genetics with interest in an academic career.
