Sterile Processing Technician (SPD) | Roles & Responsibilities

• Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Perform manual and mechanical cleaning of reusable medical devices following infection control standards.
• Assemble instrument trays and surgical case carts according to procedure specifications.
• Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers and low-temperature sterilization systems.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and proper assembly before sterilization.
• Package, label, and document sterilized instruments according to facility and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain inventory and ensure timely distribution of sterile supplies and patient care equipment.
• Monitor sterilization processes using biological, chemical, and mechanical indicators.
• Collaborate with Operating Room staff and other departments to ensure instrument availability.
• Maintain compliance with AAMI, OSHA, Joint Commission, and infection prevention standards.

Required Documents / Certifications

• Active Sterile Processing Certification ( CRCST preferred/required if applicable )
• BLS
• Sterile Processing experience
• Knowledge of instrument decontamination and sterilization techniques
• Experience assembling surgical instrument trays
