Power Plant Auxiliary OperatorBelle Glade, FL 33430OverviewPosition Type: Full Time Job Shift: Any Travel Percentage: None Category: Power GenerationDescriptionJob Summary:Responsible for inspecting and maintaining auxiliary equipment that supports the main power generation processes during start up, operation and shutdown. Work involves monitoring system parameters, assisting with performing routine tests and making adjustments and/or preventive maintenance to auxiliary equipment.Work is performed under general supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative. Position exercises some independent judgment in accordance with defined policies, procedures, and techniques.Essential Functions:The essential functions in this job description are intended only as an illustration of the various types of duties that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from job performance requirements if work is similar or related to the job.Assists operators and monitors auxiliary equipment including pumps, fans, heat exchangers, filters, and water distribution systemsRegularly monitors and controls power plant auxiliary equipment from field programmed inspection routines and reports any action needed to the control roomInstalls rotating equipment under mechanical precision guidelines and proceduresPerforms routine inspections and preventative maintenance on auxiliary equipmentAssists in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical and operational issuesAssists with startup, shutdown, and load adjustments of auxiliary systemsMonitors gauges, meters, and control systems to ensure equipment is operating within normal parameters; identifies abnormal conditions and notifies operators or supervisorsSupports maintenance teams during planned outages and repairsRecords operational readings, logs, and shift reportsReports any accidents, mechanical issues or damage to company equipment promptly to the supervisorWorks collaboratively with other team members and supervisors to achieve project goalsEnsures the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all timesFollows organizational and public safety guidelines and protocols, performs job functions in a safe manner, and reports all safety hazards per established policies and proceduresSupervisory Responsibilities:NoneMinimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in an industrial environment; OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas.Certifications, Licenses or Special Qualifications:NonePreferred Qualifications:Experience in a steam turbine power plant environmentBilingual – English and SpanishKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of power plant operations and steam cycle processesKnowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) workplace practicesKnowledge of safety protocols and compliance standards related to controlling and maintaining auxiliary equipmentSkill in the use of applicable department and organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be requiredSkill in using mathematics required for the workAbility to operate forklift, overhead crane, hoist, various hand & power tools, mechanical precision measuring toolsAbility to operate various hand/power tools, drill presses, threaders, benders, grinders, micrometers, T-squares, levels, and impact wrenchesAbility to troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipmentAbility to read gauges, meters, and basic process diagramsAbility to adapt quickly to a multicultural environmentAbility to follow instructions from supervisors and team leaderAbility to work cooperatively as a member of a service-oriented teamAbility to clearly communicate and understand information in English, orally and in writingAbility to follow safety guidelines and protocols and perform job functions in a safe mannerAbility to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, while maintaining consistent performance and adherence to operational standardsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgroundsAbility to maintain regular attendance to ensure efficient and effective performance of job dutiesAmericans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Requirements:Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, cold, rain, fumes).Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors.
