Civil Engineer - Site Development

What problems are we solving? How to replace an old sewer with a new 30” pipe to support a large city’s growth for the next generations. All the utilities, drainage, site layout, and material inspections for a new 23-story hotel. Take a scenic wooded lot and guide its development into a high-end campground. Figure out how to keep an electrical substation built in a floodplain, from flooding. Guide the development of a large apartment complex, from concept to an open house. This is just a small sampling of the “problems” you would have solved if you worked at Wightman. Apply only if you like working with fun people. The Civil Engineer will provide design and plan production for general civil design on a wide variety of projects which may include site layouts, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities. Will perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Essential Functions Perform engineering calculations in support of civil engineering design projects Manage projects including client communications, public input and feedback, and internal support Perform AutoCAD Civil 3D design/drafting in support of civil engineering design projects Perform, train, and provide guidance for site investigations, survey work, CAD work, and data collection Prepare and review engineering designs and reports which includes design calculations and plan preparation Perform, provide training for, and guide quality assurance, ensuring projects get carried out as designed and recommend modifications as needed Ability to identify engineering and surveying services needed by the client and the ability to draft proposals and estimate fees Coordinate with government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and approvals Required Skills & Behaviors Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in all work tasks Ability to plan, schedule work and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines Capable of working with a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, surveyors, architects, and technicians Aptitude and demonstrated hands‑on experience with computer applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D Mentoring capability Organizational Relationships Reports to the Manager of Site Services May have responsibility for multiple direct reports Required Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field PE licensure 5+ years of experience managing site development and land transformation 5+ years of experience in A/E/C industry Travel: Local travel as required Benefits Medical, dental, and vision coverage with eligibility upon hire date Multiple Medical plans including those with HSA employer contributions. 100% Employer paid Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability Reimbursement and support for tuition, continuing education, and personal/professional development.
