Aircraft Mechanic II - Airframes

The Position:

This position is awaiting contract award.

We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Mechanic II – Airframes to support organizational-level (O-Level) maintenance operations for the F/A-18variants assigned at NAS JRB Fort Worth.

Operating as a skilled, mid-level structures and hydraulics technician, you will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain aircraft structures, skin surfaces, landing gear, flight control mechanisms, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems. You will work independently on daily repairs, coordinate with the Airframes shop supervisor, and ensure total compliance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).

Responsibilities:

Airframe Structures & Hydraulics Maintenance

• Troubleshoot, repair, and replace complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel system components, including actuators, valves, pumps, brake assemblies, and landing gear mechanisms.
• Perform structural inspections and sheet metal/composite repairs on aircraft skins, panels, fairings, and structural frames using specialized riveting, forming, and cutting tools.
• Rig, adjust, and operationally test primary and secondary flight control surfaces (ailerons, rudders, stabilizers, and flaps) to ensure safe flight parameters.
• Inspect, service, and bleed aircraft hydraulic systems, verifying fluid contamination levels remain within strict NAVAIR limits.

Documentation & Safety Compliance

• Interpret complex structural blueprints, structural repair manuals (SRMs), engineering drawings, and Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs).
• Complete all maintenance tracking entries accurately within military data logging software (NALCOMIS/OOMA) to log diagnostic actions, parts requisitions, and time tracking.
• Enforce flawless workplace compliance with Tool Control Programs (TCP), Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, and hazardous waste/fluid disposal rules.

Flight Line Operations

• Assist with launch, recovery, and daily line servicing operations, executing cross-functional tasks such as aircraft towing, jacking, and daily line inspections.
• Support the shop supervisor in configuring the workspace and maintaining clean, safe hangar bay floors.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of military or commercial aviation structures/airframes experience, with a minimum of two (2) years focusing directly on F/A-18 variants or comparable military tactical jet platforms.
• Strong working knowledge of NAMP protocols (COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series), aircraft structural repair methods, and advanced hydraulic troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with standard airframe sheet metal equipment, hydraulic test stands (MULE), torque wrenches, and specialized precision measuring tools.
• Must possess and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance to access the flight line and military networks.
• High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a military aviation structural mechanic school (AM "A" School or equivalent) is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Progression toward or current qualification as an Airframes Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI).
• Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to safely lift and maneuver structural components or toolsets weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Physical stamina to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in tight overhead positions or cramped fuselage bays for extended durations.
• Ability to work comfortably at heights using maintenance platforms, stands, and scaffolding.
• Resilience to work in outdoor flight line environments subject to high noise levels and extreme North Texas seasonal weather.
