Metrology and Dimensional Inspection Specialist — Turbine Components

Location: Newark, Delaware

Compensation: $27.00–$31.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Your Day, Your Impact

Start your shift in our clean, climate-controlled facility as part of DuHadaway Tool and Die Shop’s ISO 9001-registered Industrial Turbine Component Repair Division. You’ll be the quality gatekeeper for complex turbine components and machined parts—validating that every critical dimension, tolerance, and feature aligns with engineering drawings, BOMs, GD&T, and customer specifications.

From first-article to in-process checks, you’ll move between the inspection lab and the shop floor, using your metrology expertise and precision instruments—height gages, verniers, inside/outside/depth micrometers, dial indicators, thread and bore gages, and CMM systems—to confirm conformance and document results. You’ll collaborate with Production to resolve issues quickly, record nonconformances, verify calibration status of instruments, and help drive a culture grounded in accuracy, safety, and continuous improvement.

Shifts

• 1st Shift: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
• 2nd Shift: 3:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
• 2nd Shift Differential: Additional 10%

What You’ll Do

• Perform dimensional inspections on turbine components, manufactured parts, and work-in-process against drawings, specs, and quality standards.
• Conduct first-article and in-process verifications on the shop floor.
• Use precision tools: height gages, verniers, micrometers (inside/outside/depth), thread gages, dial indicators, bore gages, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipment.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, BOMs, work instructions, customer specifications, and GD&T callouts.
• Create and maintain inspection reports, quality records, and supporting documentation.
• Identify and communicate nonconformances; partner with Production and other teams to investigate root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Confirm inspection equipment suitability and calibration status prior to use.
• Operate overhead cranes, hoists, and material-handling equipment safely; handle components to prevent damage.
• Keep your area organized and safe; follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in training and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3–5 years’ experience as a Quality Control/Inspection professional in manufacturing or machining.
• Proven capability with precision inspection tools and measurement interpretation.
• Hands-on setup/use of height gages, verniers, micrometers (ID/OD/depth), thread and bore gages, and dial indicators.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, BOMs, customer specs, and work instructions.
• Working knowledge of GD&T fundamentals.
• Strong math aptitude, mechanical acumen, and problem-solving mindset.
• Meticulous attention to detail; consistent, high-quality workmanship.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, processes, and procedures.
• Clear communicator; effective working independently and within a team.
• Valid driver’s license; minimum age 18; high school diploma or GED.

Preferred

• CMM operation experience.
• Familiarity with ZEISS CONTURA 2 and CALYPSO software.
• Background inspecting industrial turbine or other large, tight-tolerance components.
• Experience in precision machining, component repair, or refurbishment.
• ISO 9001 quality-system experience.

Physical Requirements

• Standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive movements during the workday.
• Ability to safely lift and move materials as needed.
• Manual dexterity for safe use of precision instruments and inspection tooling.
• Visual acuity to read drawings, instruments, and detailed inspection data.
• Comfort operating or working around cranes, hoists, industrial machinery, and other manufacturing equipment.
