Wayside Publishing is looking for a Managing Editor, Spanish Programs to lead the editorial vision, execution, and quality of our Spanish-language products. In this role, you'll collaborate with talented educators, authors, editors, curriculum specialists, and cross-functional teams to create engaging resources that support language learners and teachers across the country.

Requirements:

What You'll Do

Lead Editorial Excellence

• Guide editorial projects from concept to completion across print, digital, and multimedia products.
• Ensure content meets high standards for instructional quality, language accuracy, cultural authenticity, and curriculum alignment.
• Establish and maintain editorial processes that support quality, consistency, and efficiency.
• Provide feedback and direction to editors, authors, freelancers, and external partners.

Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner closely with Product, Instructional Development, Creative Services, Marketing, Sales, and leadership teams.
• Build project plans, timelines, and workflows that keep projects moving forward.
• Communicate progress, priorities, risks, and solutions with clarity and confidence.
• Balance instructional goals, business needs, and delivery timelines.
• Serve as a key editorial decision-maker, helping guide strategic priorities and project outcomes.

Inspire and Coordinate Editorial Talent

• Lead and coordinate the work of contractors, freelancers, vendors, and other editorial partners.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Set clear expectations for quality, scope, timelines, and deliverables.
• Support the growth and evolution of the editorial function as the organization scales.

Be a Voice for Spanish Language Learning

• Bring deep expertise in language acquisition, curriculum development, and world language instruction.
• Stay connected to educators and classrooms through conferences, customer engagement, focus groups, surveys, and other market-facing activities.
• Help shape products that reflect current research, ACTFL standards, and best practices in language education.
• Provide curriculum and content leadership across print and digital programs, ensuring instructional coherence, linguistic accuracy, proficiency progression, and cultural authenticity.
• Partner with Sales and Marketing to support customer-facing initiatives and industry events.

Contribute to Operational Success

• Support editorial budgeting and resource planning.
• Balance quality, scope, timelines, and resources to achieve sustainable delivery.
• Proactively identify and remove obstacles that could impact project success.
• Align editorial priorities with organizational goals and evolving business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Second Language Acquisition, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
• 5+ years of progressive experience in editorial leadership or managing editor roles
• 3+ years of experience leading complex editorial initiatives involving multiple stakeholders
• Native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English
• Deep knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards, proficiency guidelines, and current trends in language education
• Experience in K-12 educational publishing, world language instruction, curriculum development, or a related field
• Experience developing and managing print and digital educational products
• 5+ years of experience teaching Spanish
• Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, organizational, and planning skills
• Ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously
• Comfort leading through ambiguity, change, and evolving priorities
