Registered Nurse, Full Time, Days 7a-8p, Operating Room, Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center Morristown, NJ, United States Job Description Responsible for general nursing activities in the operating room. The perioperative nurse applies the nursing process to design, coordinate, and deliver care that meets the needs of patients whose protective reflexes or self‑care abilities are potentially compromised due to operative or invasive procedures. The nurse establishes, ensures, and supervises surgical team members and procedures to maintain quality services and efficient operations. Promotes and restores patients’ health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and the multidisciplinary team; providing physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring outcomes against care goals, making or recommending adjustments, and following hospital and nursing division policies, state board regulations, and other governing agency standards. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations and calling for assistance from health‑care support personnel. Protects patients and employees by following infection‑control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting as per policy and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs using SBAR while maintaining patient confidentiality. Ensures proper function and operation of equipment, troubleshoots malfunctions, calls appropriate personnel for repairs, and evaluates new equipment as necessary. Ensures case readiness by confirming supplies, equipment, instruments, and implants are available per surgical procedure and surgeon preferences. Documents and charges supplies accurately to support fiscal responsibility. Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education and unit mandates. Holds required professional certification(s). Contributes to team efforts and high‑quality, safe patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. All ASN candidates must complete BSN studies within five years of start date. License & Certifications: Current New Jersey Registered Nurse License required. Basic Life Support required. CNOR certification preferred. Experience: Minimum one year of Operating Room RN experience.
