Salary: $23.20 per hour (bonus eligible) Location: Devils Backbone Outpost Taproom - Lexington, VA Shift: 5 eight‑hour shifts per week. Shift options include: 1st shift: 6:00am – 2:00pm (Mon – Fri) 2nd shift: 2:00pm – 10:00pm (Mon – Fri) 3rd shift: 10:00pm – 6:00am (Sun – Thu) Occasional Saturday and potential weekend shift additions. Shifts may rotate quarterly and include morning, evening, and overnight hours with differential pay. Role Summary The Brewer operates our 120‑barrel automated brewing systems, handling milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, hop additions, whirlpool, and wort cooling. Responsibilities also include pre‑ and post‑cleaning and sanitation of all transfer lines and vessels, cellar tasks such as yeast pitching, filtration, beer transfers, tank CIPs, and maintenance of parts and hoses. The position requires 5 eight‑hour shifts per week with 24/7 coverage expectations. A punctual, self‑motivated individual who works well in a team environment is essential. Job Responsibilities Maintain all beer production areas: mill room, brewhouse, fermentation, filtration, spent grain area, bulk grain and grain storage areas, and all walkways and driveways. Assist maintenance technicians with equipment maintenance and repairs. Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules to maintain a clean working environment. Attend production meetings and contribute to product improvement. Operate and monitor electronic and computerized brew systems. Work closely with the brewing team to achieve desired quality and production targets. Complete assigned tasks in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP/SOG). Keep accurate inventory and quality management of raw materials and chemicals. Handle hazardous chemicals periodically and keep accurate daily production records per company and federal requirements. Follow all safety procedures. Represent Devils Backbone Brewing Company at beer festivals, if required. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be 21 years of age. Minimum of two years of brewing experience as an assistant brewer or brewer preferred. Brewing education, certification, or undergraduate education preferred. Ability to operate forklift (training provided) and pallet jack. General knowledge of practices, methods, tools, and equipment used in production and pub‑style brewing. General knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with a production environment. Ability to interpret technical bulletins and schematics on equipment. Involves frequent walking, lifting, and carrying objects weighing 50 lbs routinely, occasional lifting of 100–150 lbs. May require standing for long periods of time (4+ consecutive hours). Must be able to work with a fitted face respirator (provided) for periods not to exceed 30 minutes. Frequent use of latches, hand tools, clamps, hoses, etc., requiring manipulative skills and hand‑eye coordination. Regular contact with production employees and management, and occasional customer interaction.
