Public Information Officer - Sheriff's Office

Position Overview The Public Information Officer will serve as a liaison between the organization and the public to maintain a positive image of the organization. Compensation $80,000.00 Job Duties and Responsibilities Include the following, but are not limited to: Acts as the organization’s spokesperson and responds to members of the media promptly; composes, reviews, and/or distributes press releases. Promotes the organization’s public image through interactions with business, industry, and local leaders. Collaborates with executive leadership to develop a public information strategy and guidelines for the organization. Schedules public events such as speaking engagements and facilities tours. Oversees external, public-facing communication and branding in various online and print platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and industry magazines. Prepares and distributes public outreach mailings such as holiday cards, magazines, brochures, newsletters, and similar efforts. Produces, reviews, and/or distributes print and video materials for public distribution. Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with members of the media and with local civic organizations. Assists executive leadership in developing presentations, speeches, and other important public messages. Schedules and plans for special events that are open to the public. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to write in a journalistic style that is customary for external publications. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Ability to offer sound media relations advice to senior leadership. Minimum Qualifications Education or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to succeed in the position. Valid Oklahoma Driver's License. Preference given to a bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
