Human Resources Generalist

Trevecca Nazarene University is a Christian community providing education for leadership and service. Position Summary The HR Generalist supports key human resources functions throughout the employee lifecycle, including benefits administration, employee records and HRIS, recruitment and onboarding, leave administration, compliance, employee relations, and engagement initiatives. This position serves as a resource to employees and supervisors and requires strong communication, judgment, organization, attention to detail, and confidentiality. Department: Human Resources Reports To: Director of Human Resources Position Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Essential Duties and Responsibilities Benefits Administration Administers employee benefit programs and serves as a resource to employees regarding benefit plans and enrollment. Coordinates benefit enrollments, changes, vendor relationships, billing reconciliation, and required benefit reporting. Supports administration of COBRA, HSA, FSA, and other benefit programs. HRIS & Employee Records Maintains accurate employee records and HRIS information in accordance with University policies and applicable requirements. Processes employee status and benefit changes and supports records for employees, student employees, volunteers, and other workers. Recruitment & Onboarding Supports recruitment and hiring processes, including job postings, background checks, employment verification, onboarding, and orientation. Coordinates employee transitions, including new-hire and exit processes. Leave, Employee Relations & Compliance Administers employee leave programs, including FMLA and short-term disability. Coordinates workplace injury and workers’ compensation processes. Supports employment compliance activities and required federal and state reporting. Provides guidance to employees and supervisors regarding HR policies, procedures, performance management, and routine employee-relations matters. Employee Engagement & HR Operations Supports employee recognition, engagement, training, and communication initiatives. Assists with HR projects, process improvements, and other departmental priorities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills with the ability to build effective working relationships. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organization, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive matters. Ability to interpret and communicate HR policies, procedures, and benefit information. Proficiency with HR information systems and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing needs. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field and a minimum of three years of relevant experience, preferably in human resources; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Preferred Qualifications SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or related professional HR certification. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. The role is largely sedentary but may require occasional standing, bending, filing, and lifting office materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
