Circulating Operating Room Nurse (RN)

The Circulating Operating Room Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating and implementing individualized care plans for surgical patients. This role involves utilizing the nursing process while adhering to the organization's scope, standards, policies, values, and mission.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

• Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care based on thorough assessments to optimize outcomes while maximizing available resources. Responsibilities include serving in multiple roles such as Day Surgery RN, Intra-Operative RN, or PACU RN.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions effectively.
• Collaborate across disciplines to ensure comprehensive patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and addressing spiritual or psychosocial needs.
• Identify barriers to communication based on various factors including psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural considerations.
• Assess patient and family learning needs and provide education tailored to their age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Delegate patient care tasks to ancillary personnel when appropriate and may precept student nurses or new hires.
• Employ critical thinking and decisive judgment while working independently.
• Function effectively in a fast-paced environment and respond appropriately to changing situations.
• Adhere to the standards and recommended practices of relevant professional organizations and the policies of the surgical services department.
• Ensure thorough preparation for assigned patients, including verifying that necessary documentation and approvals are in place before surgery.
• Respond appropriately in emergency situations, employing interventions based on advanced life support protocols.
• Provide detailed reports on patients' preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative conditions to the receiving nursing staff.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 16 years of age; 21 years for driving positions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and health meeting requirements.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Unencumbered RN License in Colorado or a Compact State.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six months of hire.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required within one year of hire.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred for call positions.
• A minimum of two years of hospital nursing experience is preferred, along with prior operating room experience.
