Consulting Associate, Environmental Engineer, Geologist, or Scientist

Job Overview Join ERM as a Consulting Associate, Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist in either Raleigh or Charlotte, North Carolina. In this role you will support a variety of environmental projects—including site investigation, remediation, compliance, and hazardous waste management—while gaining hands‑on experience across North Carolina and beyond. Responsibilities Conduct field investigations including soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling. Perform aquifer testing, oversee drilling, log soil, install and develop wells, and conduct purging and sampling. Support remedial and wastewater treatment pilot testing and remedial system operation and maintenance. Assist in groundwater and wastewater system performance monitoring. Perform Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments. Compile, assess, and interpret environmental data; assist in preparation of technical reports. Prepare environmental compliance work plans, permits, and reporting for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, stormwater, and wastewater. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Work within scheduled scope, budget, and quality parameters. Communicate effectively with subcontractors, regulators, tenants, and clients during field activities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus or equivalent experience. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Recent graduate to two years of relevant experience. Strong interest in fieldwork; ability to stand or walk for full field days. Commitment to safety and adherence to Health & Safety protocols. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear technical notes and reports. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Detail‑oriented with a problem‑solving, results‑focused mindset. Ability to multi‑task, travel, adapt, and self‑manage. Ability to lift at least 40 pounds. Valid driver's license or ability to operate a company vehicle. Preferred certifications: 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER, GIT or EIT. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
