Registered Nurse - Inpatient Oncology - Per Diem Days

The Registered Nurse is a primary caregiver for a specific patient population, working to achieve desired outcomes. The role focuses on expanding nursing knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. The RN directs and oversees the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. The RN effectively coordinates patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services. Responsibilities Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation (APIE) Collect comprehensive health data pertinent to the patient. Perform age- and disease-specific assessment independently, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status. Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes in patients. Identify patient and family education needs, considering age, disease, and cultural learning differences. Develop a care plan that sets strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes. Formulate patient and family-centered goals based on assessment data. Coordinate a patient/family-focused plan, prioritizing and encompassing the continuum of care. Communicate, coordinate, and implement the care plan. Maintain ongoing communication with the patient, family, nursing colleagues, and other health‑care team members regarding status, care, and treatment plans. Implement age- and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner. Provide or coordinate patient/family education as needed and ensure understanding. Perform according to established protocols, including communicating with appropriate persons and documenting events. Provide nursing care and treatments that reflect patient needs, advocate appropriately, and demonstrate evidence-based practice and compliance with standards. Conduct continuous point-of-care electronic documentation of assessments, plans, interventions, and evaluations. Administer medications using bar‑scanning and documentation technologies for safe delivery. Participate in multidisciplinary discharge planning to ensure safe transition and continuum of care. Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes. Use critical thinking skills based on nursing knowledge to achieve desired patient outcomes. Initiate interventions related to changes in patient condition or unexpected responses to care. Identify ethical issues and bring them to the attention of other team members. Recognize and respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction. Maintain required competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation and licensing requirements. Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. Lift a minimum of 35 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day. Adhere to HMH's organizational and managerial competencies and standards of behavior. Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned. Qualifications Current and valid RN license in the State of New Jersey. BLS/CPR Certification by the American Heart Association. One (1) or more years of med/surg or oncology nursing experience is highly desired. Oncology nursing experience preferred. BSN preferred or willingness to acquire within 3 years of hire. OCN preferred. Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course preferred. The ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and a strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of patients and caregivers. Geographic Location: Cost of living and local market rates. Internal Equity: Consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles. Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any associated grant funding. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts.
