A Computer-Aided Design (CAD) technician uses CAD software to create technical drawings and plans for products and parts in the engineering, survey, and construction industries. This role will work with the Project Manager to complete tasks as assigned. This position will focus on Platting, Boundary Analysis, ALTA/NSPS Surveys, Topographic Surveys, ROW Surveys, and Legal Descriptions. Working with a team or individually to complete the job per client specifications and local regulations. This position should have some experience in using AutoCAD, strong attention to detail, surveying knowledge, and basic computer skills. 

Role and responsibilities

• Downloads and processes field data in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Interprets and plots records, deeds, and plats for all types of property surveys.
• The record keeping and documentation of project requirements.
• Draft Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Hydrographic Surveys, and other related surveys.
• Edit and finalize technical drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to identify sources of measurement errors.
• Set up all legal descriptions that go to a specific job.
• Communication with field crew when needed to address issues.
• Communication with the supervisor of the property when needed.
• Performs designs of portions on non-routine projects or entire projects and limited supervision
• Make required modifications and updates to drawings.
• Assisting in establishing CAD standards and utilizing these standards to minimize hours required to complete a task.
• Be able to operate the plotter, printer, scanner, and other necessary devices.
• Receive, review, and return internal documents as requested on a timely basis, obtaining required authorizations to record billable hours and/or expenses for work performed.
• Analyze sketches, notes, and other input material to determine the best approach.
• Attend meetings outside of the office.
• Create final point clouds/as-builts plans for design and as-built purposes.
• Analyze sketches, drawings, notes, and/or verbal information supplied by the engineer, surveyor, technician, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments.
• Other duties as assigned by the Department Director or Project Manager

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Preferred two years of relevant experience in utilities locate/survey deliverables.
• Experience in using GPR/RF designating technologies.
• Experience in using survey equipment and software is a plus.
• Thorough knowledge of mathematics, mathematical tables, and computations applicable to the work.
• Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and materials used in utilities locate/survey work.
• Thorough knowledge of utilities, locating/surveying instruments and equipment, and their use and care.
• Computer Skills (MS Word, Excel, Project, etc.).
• Competencies and personal attributes
• Possess effective written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements.
• Strong work ethic and team-player attitude.

Physical Demands

The familiar work environment for this position is an indoor business office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently sit, talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; and will occasionally stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk and can lift a light weight of under 25 lbs. for a short time. Availability/Schedule

The schedule is Monday through Friday, hours depending on business needs.

Travel

This role may require local travel. All employees are expected to be familiar with and adhere to the Company’s Vehicle Safety Policies. Any employee who operates a company vehicle is required to always fully comply with all aspects of this policy.
