We are seeking an experienced and engaging English and History Tutor to work with elementary, middle, and high school students, including students taking honors and AP-level English and History courses .

The ideal candidate has a strong background in reading comprehension, grammar, literary analysis, academic writing, essay development, historical analysis, and evidence-based writing. The tutor should be comfortable adapting instruction to students with a wide range of skill levels.

Schedule

• Mondays and Thursdays
• Approximately 4:00 PM–8:00 PM
• Part-time position

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized English and History instruction for elementary, middle, and high school students.
• Support advanced high school students with honors and AP English Language, AP English Literature, and AP History courses , including AP U.S. History, AP World History, and AP European History.
• Teach reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, literary analysis, academic writing, and essay development.
• Help History students strengthen document analysis, historical reasoning, thesis development, use of evidence, and essay-writing skills.
• Support students with AP-style writing, including DBQs, LEQs, and SAQs , as appropriate.
• Help students improve organization, argument development, textual evidence, sentence structure, and overall writing quality.
• Assist with school assignments, essays, reading assignments, history coursework, and test preparation as needed.
• Create and adapt lessons using tutor-created materials, school curriculum, literature, historical texts, and standardized-test resources.
• Identify students’ strengths and areas for improvement and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Track student progress and provide clear lesson notes and progress reports.
• Communicate professionally with parents regarding student performance and academic development.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, History, Literature, Education, or a related field .
• Strong knowledge of English grammar, reading comprehension, literary analysis, academic writing, and historical analysis.
• Ability to teach students across a broad range of grade levels, from elementary through high school.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Patient, dependable, organized, and able to explain challenging concepts clearly.
• Available to work Mondays and Thursdays from approximately 4:00–8:00 PM .

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of English and/or History teaching or tutoring experience.
• Experience teaching middle and high school English or History.
• Experience with AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP U.S. History, AP World History, and/or AP European History .
• Familiarity with AP History writing formats, including DBQs, LEQs, and SAQs .
• Experience helping students with analytical, argumentative, narrative, and research-based writing.
• Experience working in a tutoring center, school, or other academic setting.
