Through high-impact tutoring, educator training, and community partnerships grounded in the science of reading, Reading Assist provides intensive literacy support across Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC.Reading Assist is launching a Pre-K Literacy Pilot to deliver small group and classroom-based literacy support in early childhood centers across Wilmington. Through this pilot, trained Early Literacy Guides will work in Pre-K classrooms to deliver evidence-based instruction grounded in the science of reading and aligned to developmentally appropriate, play-based practices.The Special Project Coordinator will lead all aspects of this pilot, from curriculum selection and program design to staff management and outcome reporting. This role serves as the operational and programmatic lead for the initiative, ensuring the pilot is implemented with fidelity, Early Literacy Guides are well-supported, and participating centers experience the program as a high-quality, low-burden partnership.Manager: Managing Director of ProgramsResponsibilities:Research, evaluate, and select a developmentally appropriate Pre-K literacy curriculum aligned to the science of reading for children ages 4–5Design and oversee the overall pilot program, including implementation timelines, instructional models, and site protocolsHire, train, and directly manage four Early Literacy Guides who deliver classroom-based literacy support across participating centersBuild and maintain strong relationships with Pre-K center directors and classroom teachers to support effective, flexible implementationDevelop and maintain scheduling across up to 15 Pre-K classrooms at multiple sites, coordinating Early Literacy Guide assignmentsOversee administration of pre- and post-program assessments using the Preschool Early Literacy Indicators (PELI) toolMonitor student outcome data, identify children needing additional support, and use data to continuously improve program deliveryFacilitate regular team meetings with Early Literacy Guides to ensure instructional quality, shared learning, and staff satisfactionServe as the primary liaison between Reading Assist and participating early childhood centers throughout the pilot periodManage the pilot budget, track expenditures, and maintain accurate records across all program cost categoriesProduce a final pilot report including student outcome data, participant feedback, and recommendations for future programmingRegular travel is required to early childhood centers across Wilmington and surrounding areas. Some evening hours may be required. This position is based in Wilmington, DE, and candidates are expected to work in the Wilmington office on a hybrid schedule.Experience, Skills, and CompetenciesExperience in early childhood education, Pre-K instruction, or literacy program development required3+ years of experience managing staff or direct reports strongly preferredKnowledge of the science of reading and developmentally appropriate literacy practices for ages 3–5Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple sites and schedules simultaneouslyExcellent relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse community-based partnersExperience with student assessment tools and data-driven program improvementAbility to train, coach, and develop paraprofessional or tutoring staffA strong outcome orientation with the ability to track progress toward measurable program goalsBachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education, early childhood, or a related field preferredSalary: $70,000, commensurate with experienceAdditional Employment Information: This position is currently supported through grant funding.
